Chapter 6 - The Restitution of the Vance Trust

By 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the grand executive boardroom of Reed Global Infrastructure was filled with the warm, golden light of the afternoon sun reflecting off the Chicago River.
The entire executive committee, along with fifty senior terminal directors and labor union representatives, had gathered for the formal ratification of the corporate restructuring.
Arthur Ross stood before the central projection display, reviewing the unsealed recovery ledgers.
"The asset recovery is complete, Mrs. Vance-Reed," Arthur reported, turning to me with deep professional respect. "The federal receivership has seized forty-two million dollars from Julian Reed’s offshore accounts in Grand Cayman and Zurich. An additional twenty-four million dollars in private real estate and luxury assets have been placed under judicial attachment."
I took the master executive fountain pen—the same gold-nibbed pen my father had used when he co-founded the firm in 1996—and signed the master restructuring charter:
THE VANCE-REED SOVEREIGN MARITIME & TRANSIT ALLIANCE
RATIFIED: OCTOBER 24, 2026
CHAIRWOMAN: AVERY VANCE-REED // CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER: GRAHAM REED
Graham stood beside me, leaning down, signing his name on the secondary line with bold, decisive strokes.
The entire boardroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
The labor union delegates and terminal directors rose to their feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified future built on honor, loyalty, and truth.
Graham turned to me, taking both of my hands into his strong, warm palms, looking into my eyes with an expression of profound, unbridled devotion that had grown through the fire of the past forty-eight hours.

"It is done, Avery," Graham whispered, his slate-gray eyes soft with unshakeable peace. "Your father's house is fully restored."
"Our house, Graham," I corrected gently, smiling as my fingers curled around his. "We built it together."
