Chapter 6 - The Feast in the Family Kitchen

At one o'clock in the morning, the grand kitchen of the Moretti estate was alive with the warm, rich aromas of garlic, fresh basil, and simmering san marzano tomatoes.
Rosa, the veteran head chef who had cooked for Alessandro’s father for forty years, stood at the commercial range, stirring a massive pot of handmade potato gnocchi with fresh marinara sauce—a simple, comforting, allergen-free meal prepared specifically under Dr. Reyes’s watchful eye.
Ethan sat at the long wooden butcher-block table in his flannel pajamas, eating his pasta with healthy, vigorous appetite, his cheeks rosy, completely untroubled by the storm that had raged around him.
Beside him sat three-year-old Lily, happily dipping crusty garlic bread into a small porcelain bowl of sauce, her curly hair bouncing as Ethan showed her how to twirl pasta on a fork.
Sophia sat across from them, holding a cup of chamomile tea with shaking hands, looking up as Alessandro walked into the kitchen.
She immediately stood up, smoothing her apron. "Mr. Moretti... I can have our things out of the staff quarters by morning. I know that after everything that happened—"
"Sit down, Sophia," Alessandro said, his voice dropping into a warm, resonant timbre that carried no command, only profound, heartfelt respect.
He pulled out a chair beside his son and sat down. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a heavy, leather-bound portfolio stamped with the gold seal of the Moretti Family Heritage Trust.
He laid the document flat on the wooden table before Sophia.
"What is this, Mr. Moretti?" Sophia whispered.
"This is the deed of title to a four-bedroom colonial home on five acres in Locust Valley, free and clear of all encumbrances," Alessandro explained, his eyes locking onto hers with unshakeable sincerity. "Alongside an irrevocable fifty-million-dollar educational and medical endowment registered in Lily Carter’s name, naming you as sole executor."
Sophia stared at the papers, her eyes widening in pure, paralyzed disbelief. "Mr. Moretti... I cannot accept this. I am only your housekeeper. Lily was just doing what any child would do—"
"Lily saw what forty armed guards and fifty surveillance cameras missed, Sophia," Alessandro interrupted gently, resting his hand over hers on the table. "She saved my son's life. In this world, men trade loyalty for territory and gold, but your daughter acted out of pure, unblemished goodness. As long as I draw breath, you and Lily are family. You will never clean another person's house for the rest of your days."
Ethan looked up from his plate, smiling broadly as he slipped his small hand into Lily’s sauce-stained fingers.
"Lily's my little sister now, Papa," Ethan announced proudly.

Alessandro looked at the two children, feeling an immense, clean warmth fill the cold, empty spaces of his soul.
"Yes, she is, Ethan," Alessandro smiled softly. "Yes, she is."
