Chapter 7 - The Trial at Pier 42

Three days later, beneath a gray, weeping autumn sky, a private assembly was convened inside the high-security warehouse at Pier 42 in Brooklyn.

Over one hundred caporegimes, union stewards, and veteran captains from across the Eastern Seaboard stood in silent, rigid formation beneath the towering industrial gantry cranes.

In the center of the concrete floor sat Dante Moretti, tied to a heavy iron chair, his hands secured behind his back in steel transport chains. His face was bruised, his clothes torn, his arrogant posture completely broken into the hollow, shivering terror of a traitor who had run out of lies.

Alessandro walked into the center of the warehouse, wearing his long black overcoat, accompanied by Marco and Dr. Mateo Reyes.

Alessandro did not carry a weapon. He stopped five paces from his brother, looking down at him with the cold, immovable judgment of an ancient patriarch.

"The council has reviewed the server logs, the chemical purchase manifests, and the offshore banking ledgers recovered from your private residence in Greenwich, Dante," Alessandro announced, his baritone echoing off the corrugated steel walls. "Every asset you own has been seized. Every captain who took your bribes has been stripped of rank and expelled from this family."

Dante looked up, his bloodshot eyes welling with desperate, ragged tears. "Alessandro... please. We share the same father! Don't put me in the ground! Send me to Italy... exile me to Sicily! I will never set foot in America again!"

Alessandro reached into his pocket, pulled out the shattered, blood-stained Audemars Piguet watch, and let it drop onto the concrete floor at Dante’s feet with a sharp, final metallic clink.

"I am not going to put you in the ground, Dante," Alessandro said softly. "Our father taught me that family blood is not spilled on concrete."

Dante let out a ragged, gasping breath of relief—until Alessandro continued:

"At 6:00 AM today, Marco delivered the complete, unredacted corporate fraud, tax evasion, and chemical trafficking files to Federal Special Agent Callahan of the Organized Crime Strike Force. The United States District Court has issued a forty-count capital indictment. You will spend the next forty years in ADX Florence, in an eight-by-ten concrete cell, where you will have plenty of time to contemplate what an iron king looks like."

Four armed federal marshals stepped out of the shadows near the loading dock, their badges gleaming in the gray light, moving in to take custody of the weeping, ruined traitor.

As they dragged Dante toward the waiting transport van, Alessandro turned his back on his brother forever, walking out into the crisp, clean Atlantic breeze with his head held high.
