Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Restoration & Wedding

Two years after the trial, the sprawling private grounds of our newly constructed estate on Bainbridge Island were illuminated by the warm, golden glow of one thousand beeswax candles, towering displays of white hydrangeas, blooming jasmine, and the genuine laughter of honest people.

It was our wedding day.

The magnificent timber-and-glass pavilion—designed personally by Sloan using her patented seismic arches—overlooked the sparkling waters of Puget Sound, with the glittering skyline of Seattle rising proudly against the evening horizon.

The terrace was filled with six hundred guests: longshoremen from the deepwater terminals in tailored suits, harbor engineers, pediatric doctors from Swedish Medical, and close friends who formed the true heart of our restored alliance.

The air was alive with the mouth-watering aromas of wood-fired Pacific Northwest salmon, artisan sourdough breads, and vintage wines, accompanied by a magnificent twenty-piece acoustic orchestra playing from the cedar pergola.

At seven o'clock precisely, the orchestra launched into the soaring, gentle chords of Pachelbel's Canon in D.

Damian stood at the altar overlooking the water, looking exceptionally handsome, commanding, and completely at peace in a bespoke midnight-blue three-piece tuxedo, his slate-gray eyes fixed on the center aisle with an expression of profound, unbridled devotion.

The double cedar doors opened, and Sloan walked down the aisle.

She looked breathtaking in an exquisite, custom-designed ivory silk gown with an eight-foot train of hand-sewn Venetian lace, carrying a bouquet of white calla lilies and blue hydrangeas, her face radiant with pure, unshadowed happiness.

And walking directly ahead of her, proudly scattering white rose petals along the silk runner with ten-year-old grace and symmetry, were Hazel and Iris, looking radiant in matching navy silk dresses with delicate gold compass pendants resting against their collarbones.

When Sloan reached the platform, Damian stepped forward, taking both of her hands into his strong, warm palms.

"Ten years ago, I thought I lost the light of my life to the shadows," Damian said, his deep baritone ringing through the quiet pavilion with absolute, eternal certainty. "You gave me two angels who showed me that truth can never be extinguished, and you taught me that real power is the courage to love without fear. I take you, Sloan, for all of my days, forever."

Sloan looked into his eyes, tears of boundless, sacred joy shining on her cheeks.

"I take you, Damian," Sloan answered, her voice rich with the eternal legacy of our family. "With my whole heart, for all of our tomorrows."

Archbishop Conti raised his hands in blessing. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may seal this sacred covenant."

Damian wrapped his strong arms around Sloan’s waist, lifting her slightly as he kissed her deeply beneath the soaring glass arches, to the thunderous, standing applause of six hundred guests that echoed like music across Puget Sound.

Hazel and Iris bounded up the altar steps, giggling with pure delight, throwing their arms around both of their parents as Damian scooped their entire family into a single, unbreakable embrace beneath the golden twilight.
