Chapter 8 - The First Family Dinner

Three months after the disastrous gala, the Sterling Estate hosted another gathering in the grand dining room.
This time, there were no two hundred fake socialites, no cameras, no flashing lights, and no forced pretenses.
Instead, the long mahogany table was surrounded by people who mattered: Don, Clara, Julian, Leo, and a few trusted legal advisors who had helped guide the family through the storm.
Clara stood near the head of the table, helping little Leo adjust his booster seat while Julian poured sparkling cider into crystal flutes. The room smelled of roasted rosemary, warm garlic bread, and the sweet, comforting scent of home.
Don sat at the center of the table, watching Clara with an expression of deep, abiding love and gratitude. He reached across the polished wood, gently taking her hand.
Clara looked down, smiled, and squeezed his fingers back.
“To new beginnings,” Julian announced, raising his glass high, his eyes shining with pride as he looked at his mother and father.

“To new beginnings,” everyone echoed around the table, their voices blending in a chorus of genuine warmth and unity.
As they clinked their glasses together, the crystal chimed with a clear, resonant tone—a sound very different from the shattered decanter that had started it all. That shattered glass had been the catalyst, the violent breaking point that exposed the rot at the center of their lives and forced them into the harsh, healing light of absolute truth.
