Chapter 3 - The Document of Betrayal

The ballroom was so quiet you could hear the distant hum of the air conditioning.

Lucas stopped. He looked down at the manila envelope lying among the scattered white rose petals on the floor.

Slowly, deliberately, he bent down and picked it up.

The envelope wasn't sealed. He pulled the flap open and slid out the thick stack of papers inside. The top document was a formal, state-approved residential boarding school enrollment contract for troubled children, dated for execution exactly forty-eight hours after the wedding ceremony.

And right there, typed clearly in bold capital letters under the guardian authorization line, was Chloe’s full legal name—alongside a medical waiver, a complete forfeiture of parental visitation rights, and a financial transfer agreement routing all of Lucas’s secondary trust accounts directly into a private account controlled exclusively by Vivienne Vance.

Lucas’s face went cold as absolute ice. The warmth of his humanity seemed to drain out of him in a single second, leaving behind the terrifying intellect of a billionaire tech mogul who had just discovered an assassin inside his own perimeter.

He lifted his head, his slate-gray eyes locking onto Vivienne with a look so lethal she stumbled backward, hitting the floral archway.

“How long?” Lucas asked.

His voice was terrifyingly calm—the calm before a category-five hurricane.

“Lucas… it’s not what it looks like… my family lawyer drafted that just in case—!” Vivienne shrieked, tears springing to her eyes as she realized the depth of the trap she had built for herself.

“How long have you been planning to kidnap my daughter and lock her away in an institution while you emptied my accounts?!” Lucas shouted, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings with enough force to rattle the crystal chandeliers.

The guests erupted into chaotic murmurs. Vivienne’s mother fainted in the third row, while her father stood up, red-faced and stammering, trying to distance himself from the disaster.

Lucas didn't care about the guests. He didn't care about the wedding. He ripped the multi-page contract in half, dropped the pieces onto the floor, and turned his back on the woman he had almost married.

He walked back to Chloe, scooped her into his arms, and kissed her forehead.

“Come on, bug,” Lucas said softly, his voice trembling with emotion. “We’re going home.”
