Chapter 4 - The Clean-Up

Within twenty minutes of the collapse at St. Andrews, the glittering ballroom was completely empty.
Vivienne and her humiliated family had fled through the service exits, escaping into waiting town cars while paparazzi and wedding crashers captured every humiliating second on their cell phones. The multi-million-dollar wedding had transformed from a society fairy tale into the biggest public scandal of the decade.
Lucas and Chloe returned to the safety of their modern, glass-walled estate overlooking the city skyline.
The heavy oak front door clicked shut, locking out the noise, the media trucks, and the toxic wreckage of the past. The house felt bright, warm, and entirely secure.
Chloe sat on the expansive living room rug, happily coloring a picture of a puppy with her favorite pink crayon, while a cheerful cartoon played softly on the television. The dark, terrified shadows in her eyes had completely vanished, replaced by the innocent, carefree joy of a little girl who knew her daddy would protect her from any monster in the world.
Lucas sat at his glass-topped desk in the corner of the room, his laptop open.
His fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard with blistering speed. He wasn't just canceling catering invoices or stopping venue checks; he was systematically unleashing his corporate legal team and cybersecurity protocols to dismantle Vivienne’s social and financial standing.
Her family’s old-money real estate holdings were tied up in federal compliance audits by noon. Her personal bank accounts were frozen by 1:00 PM under suspicion of attempted corporate fraud and child endangerment conspiracy. By nightfall, Vivienne Vance would find herself legally exposed, financially ruined, and socially exiled from the elite circles she valued above human life.
His private security chief, a massive, quiet man named Marcus, stepped into the room, holding a secure tablet.
“Boss, the digital footprint has been scrubbed from the venue’s surveillance archives. The physical contracts have been secured in our primary safe deposit vault, and our legal team confirms Vivienne has no legal recourse without exposing herself to felony criminal charges,” Marcus reported crisply.
“Good,” Lucas said without looking up from his screen. “Double the perimeter security on the estate, Marcus. I don't ever want anyone unauthorized stepping foot within five miles of my daughter again.”

“Understood, Boss. It’s already done.”
Marcus nodded and withdrew quietly, closing the study doors behind him.
