Chapter 6 - The Fall of Marcus Vance

Frank Callahan stepped forward, slamming three thick certified probate files onto the center of the mahogany table with a concussive thud.

"Under emergency arrest warrants issued by Chief District Judge Evelyn Montgomery at 6:00 AM today, Arthur," Frank announced, his voice booming across the silent hall, "Marcus Vance and Arthur Vale are under federal indictment for Interstate Kidnapping, Extortion, Corporate Forgery, and Racketeering under the RICO Act."

Frank connected his tablet to the ballroom’s seventy-foot digital display wall.

The massive screens illuminated instantly, displaying the decrypted wiretap logs from the Oak Brook clinic, the forged non-disclosure agreements, and the surveillance footage of Marcus Vance threatening Emma’s brother.

The ballroom erupted into furious, panicked shouts. Caporegimes and union bosses pushed their chairs back in open revulsion, stepping away from Marcus Vance as if he were carrying a lethal plague.

Marcus Vance panicked. He reached inside his jacket for a concealed sidearm, but I moved with blinding speed.

I closed the distance in two strides, my left hand clamping around Marcus’s wrist, twisting the joint until the steel pistol clattered uselessly to the floor. I drove my forearm across his chest, slamming him hard against the limestone fireplace, pinning him in place with effortless, crushing power.

"You threatened the mother of my child, Marcus," I whispered, my slate-gray eyes locking onto his terrified face with the cold, immovable finality of an iron cage closing. "You helped steal my son from a hospital bed."

"Julian... please!" Marcus gasped, his face turning an ashen shade of chalk. "Arthur ordered it! He paid me two million dollars! I was just following orders!"

"Your orders are terminated," I said softly.

I tossed Marcus to the floor at the feet of the federal marshals, who clicked heavy steel transport chains around his wrists and ankles.

I turned back to the head of the table.

Arthur Vale stood trembling against his chair, his aristocratic veneer completely pulverized into dust, looking at Emma with eyes full of bitter, defeated ruin.

"You brought a common doctor to destroy my legacy, Julian," Arthur wheezed, his voice cracked with age and malice.

"She is not a common doctor, Arthur," I said, stepping beside Emma and taking her hand in mine. "She is the mother of the Vale heir. And from this day forward, your name is erased from this empire."

Two federal marshals stepped forward, escorting the disgraced patriarch out of his own manor in chains as the entire council watched in stunned, condemning silence.
