Chapter 4 - The Takeover of the Hale Estate

The transformation of the Hale estate from a wedding celebration into a tactical takeover happened with terrifying, military precision.
Outside in the grand ballroom, the five hundred elite guests remained entirely oblivious to the drama unfolding upstairs, sipping champagne and waiting for the bride and groom to make their grand entrance. But down in the security control rooms and up in the private executive suites, Marconi capos systematically disabled the Hale security grid, seized the master communications servers, and locked down every exit.
Giulietta walked down the grand marble staircase of the bridal wing, her silk train trailing gracefully behind her, looking less like a jilted bride and more like a general inspecting her troops.
At the bottom of the stairs, her father—Vincenzo Marconi—stood waiting. Despite the stroke that had slowed him down the previous year, Vincenzo’s eyes were as sharp and unyielding as polished steel. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, leaning slightly on a heavy ebony cane with a silver wolf-head handle.
“Is it done, piccola?” Vincenzo asked, his voice a low, raspy rumble.
“The bridal suite is secured, Papa,” Giulietta reported, stopping three steps above him. “Preston is tied to a chair, and Warren is currently realizing that his son’s stupidity just cost him his entire empire.”
Vincenzo let out a dry, rumbling chuckle that shook his broad shoulders. “I told the council months ago that the Hales were getting sloppy. They thought my health made us soft. They forgot that I raised a daughter who could disarm a capo before she learned how to drive.”
As if on cue, Warren Hale was marched down the stairs flanked by two Marconi guards, his hands cuffed behind his back with heavy plastic zip-ties. His tailored tuxedo was wrinkled, his face pale and drained of all its former arrogance. Behind him, looking even more pathetic, was Preston, sniffling and dragging his feet.
Warren stopped at the bottom of the steps, looking up at Vincenzo with bitter resignation.
“You planned this,” Warren spat, his voice shaking with suppressed rage. “You never intended to let the marriage happen. You used the wedding as cover to infiltrate my estate.”
Vincenzo tapped his ebony cane against the marble floor. “We came to celebrate an alliance, Warren. You came to execute a coup. Don't insult my intelligence by pretending you were the victim here. Your son left his ledgers wide open, and my daughter knows how to read between the lines.”
“What are you going to do?” Preston whimpered from the back of the line, his voice cracking with panic. “You can't just kill us! The entire city knows we’re here!”
Giulietta walked down the remaining steps, stopping inches from Preston. She looked down at him with an expression of profound, chilling pity.
“Nobody is going to kill you, Preston,” Giulietta said softly. “That would be a waste of good leverage. But as for the Hale syndicate... your ports, your warehouses, your distribution networks, and your bank accounts legally transfer to Marconi holdings at midnight, pursuant to the default clauses in the prenuptial agreement your father signed last Tuesday.”
Warren’s eyes widened in horror. “That clause... that was conditional on—!”
“On a breach of contract,” Giulietta finished smoothly. “And embezzling from our joint accounts while plotting an assassination qualifies as a material breach.”

She turned away from them, signaling to her father.
“Lock them in the lower wine cellar,” Vincenzo ordered the guards. “Let them contemplate the art of the deal over empty barrels.”
