Chapter 7 - The New Order

Within a month, the underworld of the eastern seaboard underwent a permanent, structural realignment.
The vacuum left by the collapse of the Hale syndicate was filled instantly and efficiently by the Marconi empire, but under a radically different operational model. Giulietta—now officially recognized by the regional council as the Executive Director of Marconi Holdings—modernized their shipping lanes, purged the corrupt judges who had taken bribes from the Hales, and established a new code of corporate and criminal governance that prioritized absolute stability over reckless expansion.
The politicians who had dined at the ill-fated wedding quickly bent the knee, quietly redirecting their campaign donations and loyalty pledges toward Giulietta’s offices in downtown Manhattan.
On a bright, crisp Saturday morning in late October, Giulietta stood on the glass balcony of her new penthouse office overlooking the New York harbor.
Below her, massive container ships bearing the Marconi crest glided smoothly through the blue water, unloading cargo with clockwork precision.
Her phone buzzed on the glass table behind her.
She walked back inside, picked up the encrypted device, and swiped to answer.
“Report,” Giulietta commanded smoothly.
“Director Marconi,” Vincent, her lead capo, reported crisply from the field. “The final warehouse audit in Brooklyn is complete. All Hale assets are fully integrated into our grid. Furthermore, our informants in South America confirm that Warren and Preston Hale have permanently settled in a modest fishing village outside Montevideo. They have no money, no connections, and no way back.”
“Keep them under loose surveillance just in case they develop delusions of grandeur,” Giulietta instructed calmly. “Otherwise, let them rot.”

“Understood, Director.”
She ended the call, set the phone down, and looked out over the skyline of the city she now owned from the foundations to the spires.
