Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the Dynasty

Arthur Harrington crossed the showroom floor with the heavy, commanding stride of a man accustomed to owning every room he entered. At sixty-five, his silver hair and tailored Brioni suit projected an image of untouchable corporate dignity. But as he drew closer and saw the name on the federal badge, the color began to recede from his own cheeks.
"Agent Vance," Arthur said, forcing a strained, tight smile onto his face as he extended a hand. "I wasn't informed that your department was conducting an on-site visit today. Surely this is a misunderstanding. My daughter is high-strung, but—"
Elena did not take his hand. She kept her arms at her sides, her hazel eyes locked onto Arthur with unyielding steel.
"Your daughter just committed felony assault, Mr. Harrington," Elena interrupted, her voice carrying clearly across the silent showroom. "And based on the preliminary data we downloaded from your server hubs an hour ago, that’s the least of your legal concerns."
Arthur’s smile vanished. He turned his glare onto Vanessa. "What did you do?"
"She... she wouldn't leave, Dad!" Vanessa stammered, tears of sheer panic finally spilling over her cheeks, her designer veneer completely shattered. "She was snooping around the cars! She said she was auditing us!"
"She is auditing us, you absolute fool!" Arthur roared, his face turning a mottled shade of purple. He turned back to Elena, lowering his voice into a desperate, pleading register. "Agent Vance, let’s go into my private office. We can discuss whatever paperwork discrepancies your team found over a scotch. Name your terms."
"My terms are non-negotiable," Elena said, pulling a thick stack of printed financial ledgers from her leather portfolio and tossing them onto the nearest showroom hood.
The papers slid across the pristine black paint.

"For eighteen months, your dealership has been filing duplicate warranty claims for vehicles that never left the lot," Elena stated, reading aloud from the top sheet. "You funneled federal green-energy grants into offshore shell companies in the Caymans while charging customers for eco-upgrades that were never installed. And when local consumers filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau... your customer relations department systematically intercepted, forged, and shredded them."
Arthur stared at the ledgers. The fortress he and his family had built over four decades was crumbling into dust before his eyes, reduced to a stack of paper held by a woman whose cheek was still red from his daughter's blow.
