Chapter 7 - The Reckoning

The confession echoed off the mahogany walls, sealing Evelyn's fate with absolute finality. Andrew did not shout, nor did he make a move to strike her; his silence was far more terrifying than any violent outburst could have been. He simply raised his hand and made a sharp, decisive gesture toward the security detail he had summoned moments earlier.
Two massive guards in black tactical gear stepped forward instantly, their expressions stone-cold as they flanked Evelyn on either side. Before she could launch into another frantic tirade or attempt to claw her way toward the exit, their heavy hands clamped down on her arms with inescapable authority.
"Take her to the holding cells in the basement," Andrew ordered, his voice dropping to a low, lethal hum that vibrated through the floorboards. "Confiscate her phone, her jewelry, her passport, and every single asset tied to my accounts. Notify our legal team to draft immediate charges for attempted murder, kidnapping, fraud, and conspiracy. Ensure she never sees daylight outside of a prison cell for the rest of her natural life."
Evelyn thrashed wildly against the guards, her expensive red silk dress tearing at the seams as she was dragged backward across the polished marble floor. Her desperate screams of denial and vile curses bounced off the walls, growing fainter and fainter as she was hauled down the grand staircase toward the subterranean levels of the estate, until the heavy iron security doors slammed shut, cutting off her voice entirely.
The hallway fell into a heavy, profound quiet once more, filled only by the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock and the soft, hiccuping breaths of the twin boys. Andrew turned back toward the center of the room, where Sarah still sat on the cold floor, cradling Leo and Liam against her chest.
The fierce, terrifying billionaire who commanded empires and crushed corporate rivals melted away in an instant, leaving behind a broken, grieving husband who had just been handed back a miracle he never thought he would see again. He dropped to his knees once more, ignoring the dirt and the stain of the dramatic confrontation, and slowly crawled toward them.
His hands hovered over Sarah’s shoulders, trembling uncontrollably as he looked into her amber eyes, searching for any sign that she might push him away, that she might blame him for failing to recognize her, for letting her suffer in the shadows of his own home for three endless years.

"Sarah," he choked out, a single tear finally breaking free from the corner of his eye and cutting a clean path down his cheek. "God help me... I didn't know. I swear to you, I didn't know."
Sarah looked at him for a long, agonizing moment, the weight of three years of isolation and heartbreak hanging heavy in the space between them. Slowly, deliberately, she reached out her scarred hand and placed it gently against his cheek, wiping away the stray tear with a tenderness that defied human understanding.
