Chapter 2 - The Name That Stopped Time

The corridor fell into an eerie, suffocating silence.
For two seconds, neither Clara nor Dr. Harrison moved. Then, Clara’s eyebrows knitted together in confusion, followed instantly by a wave of nervous laughter.
"Woman in Pink: Wait... who did she just say?" Clara asked, looking around the empty hallway as if expecting a hidden camera crew to jump out.
Dr. Harrison, however, did not laugh. The color drained entirely from his face. His mouth dropped open, his eyes fixed on Emily in absolute horror.
"Doctor: Uncle Raymond? As in... the hospital owner?!" Dr. Harrison stammered, his knees visibly buckling beneath him as he took a terrified step back.
"Emily: Yes, and bring hospital security with you immediately," Emily said clearly into the phone before ending the call with a sharp tap of her thumb.
Clara whipped her head around to glare at the doctor, her face flushing crimson. "Woman in Pink: That's impossible... she's lying! There is no Uncle Raymond! The board chairman is Raymond Vance, the patriarch of the entire medical empire! She’s just a desperate peasant trying to scare us!"
Dr. Harrison was trembling so violently he could no longer hold the manila folder. It slipped from his fingers, scattering blank adoption surrender forms and psychiatric commitment orders across the polished linoleum floor.
"Doctor: We made a terrible mistake..." Dr. Harrison whispered, his voice cracking into a high-pitched squeak of pure terror.
Clara grabbed the lapel of his white coat, shaking him furiously. "Woman in Pink: Stop acting like an idiot! Call security right now and drag her into the basement before anyone else gets here!"
Before Dr. Harrison could lift a finger, the distant sound of heavy, synchronized footsteps echoed from the far end of the third-floor corridor.
Thud. Thud. Thud.

Raymond Vance—the billionaire founder and sole owner of the St. Jude Memorial Hospital network, and the reclusive, fiercely protective uncle of Emily’s late husband—had arrived.
