The chaos in the room was interrupted by the swift, quiet entry of Dr. Harrison, the head of obstetrics and pediatrics at St. Jude Memorial, accompanied by a hospital security supervisor. Word of raised voices and a security flag had reached the administrative desk.
"Mr. Vance, Mrs. Vance, is there a problem here?" Dr. Harrison asked professionally, his eyes darting to the crumpled DNA report on the floor.
"There is a massive problem, Doctor," Mark said, his jaw set in stone. He pointed at Margaret. "This woman—my mother—illegally obtained unauthorized private genetic testing using a stolen identity and compromised chain-of-custody protocols regarding my newborn son."
Dr. Harrison frowned, picking up the Apex GeneCorp printout. He scanned the header, his professional expression turning stern. "Mr. Vance, I must inform you that any private, mail-in genetic test conducted outside our hospital’s certified clinical laboratory holds zero legal or medical validity. Furthermore, our hospital maintains strict chain-of-custody protocols for all newborn screenings. If you have any doubts regarding paternity or genetic lineage, our hospital can perform an official, court-admissible dual-parentage verification test right here, right now, under strict clinical supervision."
Emily looked at Mark, her eyes silently pleading. "Do it, Mark. Please. Let the hospital run a real test. I want the truth out once and for all."
Mark nodded firmly. "Do it, Doctor. Run the official hospital test immediately. I want my son’s true parentage verified by certified medical professionals, not by my mother’s criminal conspiracies."
