Chapter 10 - The Open Road (Happily Ever After)

Spring returned to New England with a brilliant explosion of color, painting the coastal hills of Maine in vibrant shades of green and gold.
The small, picturesque church on the edge of the coastal village was filled with laughter, the soft strumming of an acoustic guitar, and the sweet scent of wild roses. There were no grand ballrooms, no hundreds of high-society guests in designer tuxedos, and no corporate media cameras flashing in the dark.
Instead, the pews were filled with the people who truly mattered: the warm-hearted art gallery owner who had given Emily a chance when she had nothing, the kind neighbors from the South End who had shared their homemade pastries, and a handful of loyal friends who knew what it meant to fight for love against insurmountable odds.
And standing at the altar, waiting with a quiet, breathtaking grace, was Ethan Brooks.
He wore a simple, elegant dark suit, his short brown hair neat, his dark eyes shining with an unmistakable depth of emotion as the wooden church doors swung open.
Music swelled softly as Emily walked down the aisle.
She wore a gown of delicate white lace, handmade and timeless, with no designer label or price tag attached. In her hand, she carried a simple bouquet of wildflowers picked from the meadows overlooking the sea. But it was her smile—radiant, unburdened, and overflowing with absolute joy—that made everyone in the room catch their breath.
When she reached the altar, Ethan took her hands in his. His grip was warm, strong, and steady.
"You look breathtaking," Ethan whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"You clean up pretty well yourself, Mr. Brooks," Emily teased softly through happy tears.
The ceremony was short, heartfelt, and deeply personal, spoken with vows that carried the weight of everything they had survived together. And when the pastor smiled and said, "I now pronounce you husband and wife," Ethan didn't hesitate—he pulled Emily into his arms and kissed her with all the passion and devotion of a man who had conquered the world just to win her heart.
Later that evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the ocean in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and rose, a small wooden boat was gently bobbing at the edge of the private dock.
Emily and Ethan stood hand in hand on the wooden planks, looking out at the open water.
There were no gilded cages waiting for them. No corporate empires to maintain, no enemies hiding in the shadows, and no conditional love measured in bank accounts. There was only the open road, the boundless ocean, and a future built entirely on truth, courage, and unconditional love.
Ethan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, old-fashioned compass, placing it gently into Emily’s palm.
"Where to next, Mrs. Brooks?" Ethan asked with a warm, mischievous smile.
May you like
Emily looked down at the compass, its needle pointing unwaveringly toward the horizon, then wrapped her arms around Ethan’s neck, resting her head against his chest where she could hear the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.
"Anywhere," Emily whispered, kissing him softly in the twilight breeze. "As long as it's with you."
