Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Confrontation

The following Monday morning, Nathan’s corporate life collided violently with his personal restoration. At 9:00 AM sharp, the quarterly board meeting of Vance Global Holdings was called to order on the forty-fifth floor of the downtown Chicago skyscraper.

The mahogany boardroom was packed with twelve senior directors and major shareholders—men and women who had whispered behind closed doors about Nathan’s emotional isolation, his erratic management style over the past few years, and the sudden legal entanglement surrounding Claire Sterling, who had previously served as a minor corporate PR consultant.

Nathan walked into the boardroom not in his usual distracted, tense state, but with the terrifying, razor-sharp focus of an apex predator. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit, his posture completely unyielding, as he took his seat at the head of the massive glass table.

Beside him sat a corporate attorney carrying a thick stack of certified legal documents.

"Good morning, everyone," Nathan began, his voice cutting through the murmurs of the room like a cold blade. "Before we discuss quarterly shipping logistics and real estate acquisitions, there is an official family and corporate restructuring matter that requires immediate formal entry into the public ledger."

Arthur Sterling, a senior board member and distant uncle of the disgraced Claire, adjusted his glasses and frowned. "Nathan, with all due respect, our fiduciary duty is to corporate assets, not your personal romantic scandals. The arrest of Ms. Sterling has already caused a three-point dip in our morning stock value—"

"Arthur," Nathan interrupted smoothly, raising a single finger. "Stop right there before you finish a sentence you'll regret for the rest of your natural life."

Nathan signaled his attorney, who began distributing thick manila folders to every director around the table.

"Inside those folders," Nathan continued, locking eyes with each board member one by one, "you will find certified birth certificates, independent international DNA lab results, and formal recognition documents establishing my three legal heirs: Chloe, Maya, and Lily Vance. Furthermore, you will find legal amendments to the Vance Family Trust transferring fifty percent of my personal voting shares and asset allocations directly into their names, managed jointly by their mother and legal guardian, my wife, Grace Vance."

The boardroom erupted into immediate, chaotic pandemonium. Several directors stood up from their chairs, shouting over one another.

"Your wife?!" Arthur Sterling yelled, slamming his palms onto the glass table. "You're marrying a woman no one in society has ever heard of, handing over half the voting shares to three toddlers you claim suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and expecting us not to question this madness?!"

Nathan didn't raise his voice. He didn't yell. He simply stood up slowly, leaning his weight onto the table, towering over the dissenters.

"Question my marriage, question my children, or question my management again, Arthur, and I will exercise my remaining fifty-plus-percent voting majority to dissolve this board, strip every single one of you of your quarterly dividends, and audit every expense account in this building down to the last paperclip," Nathan said, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet register that made the entire room freeze in absolute terror.

Not a single person breathed.

"My family is back," Nathan stated, his eyes blazing with absolute authority. "The Vance dynasty is secure, legitimate, and unified. If any of you have a problem with that, your resignation letters can be submitted to my secretary by noon today. Meeting adjourned."

Nathan turned on his heel, grabbed his briefcase, and walked out of the boardroom, leaving twelve stunned, speechless executives staring at their manila folders in stunned silence.
