Chapter 2 - The Digital Execution

High above the ballroom, the massive, eighty-inch holographic projection screen—ordinarily reserved for displaying scrolling donor names and glossy corporate logos—flickered violently.
The gold-embossed lettering of the Metropolis Children’s Foundation vanished.
A high-definition video feed snapped onto the display with terrifying clarity.
At first, the guests thought it was a promotional reel. But as the camera angle stabilized, the high-society elites realized they were looking at a live, unedited, crystal-clear security recording of the exact spot where they were currently standing.
On the giant screen, towering ten feet tall for all three hundred guests to see, Victoria Sterling’s face appeared in horrifying detail.
The audio system, wired directly into the master acoustic grid of the estate, broadcasted Victoria’s shrill, vicious voice into every corner of the room:
“Not today! You are not ruining my gala, you little brat!”
Then came the sickening audio of the strike—SLAP—followed by Maya’s small, composed response and the cruel threat that followed.
Wealthy Guests gasped in absolute, unfiltered horror.
“Did she just hit a child?!” a prominent city councilman yelled, dropping his glass of wine onto the white carpet.
“Look at the screen! That’s the Chairperson of the Children’s Foundation!” a tech executive muttered, backing away from Victoria as if she carried a plague.
Whispers exploded into a deafening wall of outrage. Flashbulbs from the corner press pool began to fire in rapid, machine-gun succession, capturing every single angle of Victoria’s public execution.
Victoria froze in absolute terror.
She slowly turned her head upward, staring at the giant screen displaying her monstrous act in ultra-high definition. The blood drained entirely from her face, leaving her looking like a corpse caked in expensive foundation. She looked around the room, seeing the cold, revulsed stares of the city's most powerful people—the very people whose validation she had spent her entire life murdering her soul to secure.
“Wait… no… this is a fake!” Victoria shrieked, her voice cracking as she pointed a shaking, manicured finger at the screen. “It’s a deepfake! AI manipulation! That child hacked the system! She’s a liar!”
Nobody moved toward her. Not a single person offered a comforting word. Even her fiancé, Julian Vance, who had been marching over from the grand staircase, stopped dead in his tracks. Julian stared at the screen, then down at Victoria, the calculating gleam in his eyes revealing the cold calculus of a man who instantly realized his corporate alliances had just been incinerated.
Little Maya stood untouched beneath the giant projection, her small hand dropping away from her pendant.
“My grandfather taught me how to secure networks,” Maya said quietly, her voice carrying effortlessly through the stunned silence of the ballroom. “He also taught me that bullies always leave their backdoors wide open.”
Victoria lunged toward the child, driven by pure, animalistic panic, her fingers curled into claws. “I’ll kill you, you little demon—!”
Before Victoria could take two steps, heavy, synchronized footsteps echoed from the grand entrance.
