As the seasons turned, bringing the golden warmth of late summer back to Metropolis, the city itself felt fundamentally transformed.

Elena sat in her new executive office on the top floor of the foundation building—an office with clean lines, minimalist furniture, and large floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over the thriving city skyline.
Her phone buzzed on the mahogany desk.
She picked it up, swiping to answer an encrypted call from the federal restructuring trustees.
“Director Vance,” the voice on the other end reported crisply. “The final asset liquidation of the Sterling portfolio has been officially closed. All restitution funds have been successfully deposited into the public trust accounts.”
“Understood,” Elena replied calmly. “Thank you for your diligence.”
She ended the call, set the phone down, and stood up to walk over to the window.
